It has been a remarkable year for growing here at Hidden Valley Bed and Breakfast! Although we have not had a lot of heat, we have had more rain than usual which has lead to a very interesting harvest.
Our beans, peas, beets, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, celery, parsley and cilantro have done extremely well. Our raspberries and Saskatoon berries have also been growing in a healthy abundance. The raspberries so well that we have to pick them everyday to keep up to everything!
The big surprise has been our cucumbers! We must have at least 30 jars of dilled pickles put up already, and they are still growing like crazy! We are pickling and harvesting almost every three days.
Our Swiss chard is also growing very well, but the spinach and lettuce did not do that well unfortunately. Our potatoes, carrots and cabbage are coming in well. We should be making sauerkraut in about two weeks, as well as planning to harvest our potatoes the first week of September!
