We had an incredible harvest this year… the flowers were magnificent and the vegetable garden was extremely prolific. We now have Saskatoon berries galore, rhubarb, peas, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, swiss chard, oregano, savoury, thyme, coriander and parsley in the freezer in abundance.

2013 Harvest

Our cold room is full of carrots, potatoes, turnip, kohlrabi, plus a huge crock of sauerkraut and canned beets. We still have bowls and bowls of tomatoes on the kitchen counter. We worked hard and are extremely grateful. This next week we will rototillering the veggie garden.  We will be planting the winter seeds near the end of September (when there is no chance of germination).

Cauliflower & broccoli – fresh from the garden

We begin dumping the flowers.  It is going to be hard to say good-bye to summers’ glory.  There is always a feeling of nostalgia at this time of year.
